A Mothers Words

The mind i believe is the greatest tool that God has given us for one it can store up to 1.4 trillion facts and with facts come memories. Memories are in essence character shapers, but for me i have to agree with Alexander Pope when he wrote in his poem Eloisa to Abelard:
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd"
It is true that without memories I would be a happier person.. for only two types of memories flood my mind. Of the wrong i have committed and the the good stuff i no longer have. One of the most profound memories of my year was a discussion i had with my mom and how the power of a mother's love can be so insightful that she doesn't even know that what she had said can have a profound effect on your life. We were discussing in general about male and female relationships and how it hurts her to see countless young people of my age come and receive treatment for STI's, and how she worries about us since she is so far away. Thats when it hit me, the true meaning of being a christian. I realised how all my life i did good things to please my parents and now that they were far away i had to change my mindset and start doing the right thing :
(i) Because I am a child of God
(ii) For myself
Isn't it funny that on our facebook profiles we have these bible verse applications but the same book has become a spiders haven by your bedside. How on iLike we put christian artists Hillsong and Cece Winans but our ipods we have totally different vibes. How we have turned christianity into "having" instead of "being". How we aquire wisdom but do not impart it. How we have become sayers of the word but do nothing. Let are not only be people who know what is right but who also chose to do it. Let us be like the servant in Psalms 1vs2-3 "Instead they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord and they study it day and night. They are like a trees that grows beside the stream, that bear fruit at the right time and whose leaves do not dry up....."
As my brother always tells me let us be the affectors and not the affected.
